Weeks 1, 2, and 3 of the 2023 NFL season are now complete and carried out. These past three weeks have been a whirlwind of drama and excitement. We learned that the Miami Dolphins can score 70 points, the Chicago Bears’ offense needs salvation, and the Kansas City Chiefs’ offense has revved up.
The Arizona Cardinals have jumped from the bottom of the Power Rankings with a big win against the Cowboys. Additionally, the Jacksonville Jaguars dropped out of the top-10 rankings after suffering defeat to the Houston Texans. Now comes a new week and new rankings. In this post, we’ll look at the top 5 teams in the NFL Power Rankings.
#1 Miami Dolphins
After defeating the Denver Broncos on Sunday, the Miami Dolphins is the number one NFL team in Week 4 with soaring FanDuel NFL odds. They also stand as one of the undefeated teams through three weeks. Coming off a historic 70-point win against the Broncos, the Dolphins proved they’re dangerous and aggressive in the league.
They scored 70 points without the second-leading wide receiver Jaylen Waddle. It’s unbelievable. The match was dishonorable to the Broncos because the Dolphins scored non-stop.
Speed in its running and passing games was the main driving force behind the Dolphins’ Week 3 win. While in Week 2, their defense was on display. If the core players stay healthy and uninjured, the Dolphins can surely beat anyone.
#2 San Francisco 49ers
The San Francisco 49ers showed the New York Giants how commanding and supreme they can be on defense. Rookie quarterback Brock Purdy fits in wonderfully in the team’s system as they keep securing regular-season victories.
Purdy was primarily kept in the middle of the pack because they had the highest blitz percentage in the league. But the 49ers defense wasn’t shaken. Teams are likely to pester Purdy with the blitz in their coming games. They’ll be unbeatable as long as the Dolphins’ defense remains sharp and immaculate.
#3 Philadelphia Eagles
The Philadelphia Eagles’ offensive line was crucial for bringing home the bacon in Week 2. But in Week 3, their defensive line was the show’s start. Howie Roseman, Eagles General Manager, likes his players mean, strong, and big, and they have plenty of that on their lines.
With a 25-11 win over the Bucs, the Eagles pushed their record to 3-0. Practically, they cleared out everything Tampa Bay wanted to do. The Bucs only attained 174 yards and 2.4 yards per rush.
Despite moving to 3-0, there are still a few things the Philadelphia Eagles need to clean up. The passing game was limited on Monday night, and the Eagles haven’t played a complete game yet.
That’s not to say the Eagles have misplayed. They just haven’t had a clean and sharp game yet. But it’s coming. The Eagles have many ways to win since they have one of the league’s best defensive and offensive lines.
#4 Kansas City Chiefs
With a healthy Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes, the Kansas City Chiefs have a top-notch offense. They quickly knocked out the vulnerable Chicago Bears in Week 3, 41-10. The Chiefs were excellent at stopping the run beyond the limits of their base defense.
In Weeks 1, 2, and 3, Patrick Mahomes efficiently carried the team to perfect offense performance. On Sunday, he had a trio of touchdowns and garnered 272 yards through the air. Mahomes added another 28 yards on the ground and carried the ball thrice.
Travis Kelce also performed excellently. He hauled in seven passes on eight targets, had a touchdown, and 69 receiving yards against the Bears. Kelce helped and supported Mahomes, forming a dangerous threat in the red zone.
The Chiefs’ defensive line has been one of the most consistent in the league, even though it comprises most of the youngest players in the team. They have been successful in shutting down their opponent. Justin Fields, the Bears’ quarterback, was sacked many times and was primarily contained on the ground, which is a difficult task.
#5 Buffalo Bills
After a challenging season-opening loss, the Buffalo Bills entered Week 3 with a game against the Washington Commanders. The final score was 37-3 in favor of the Bills. The Buffalo Bills quickly sacked Commanders’ quarterback Sam Howell nine times, intercepted him four times, and shut out Washington.
The Bills’ star quarterback, Josh Allen, went with a touchdown and interception in 20 of 32 for 218 yards. Running back James Cooke had 15 carries for 98 yards, and wide receiver Stefon Diggs made eight touchdown catches for 111 yards.
Linebacker Terrel Bernard was in every place with two sacks, seven tackles, a fumble recovery, and interceptions.
The Buffalo Bills’ next game will be on Sunday against the number 1 Miami Dolphins. It’ll be exciting to see how the Bills can overcome the prowess and determination of the Dolphins.
Conclusion
These five teams have performed very well in the first three weeks of the 2023 NFL season. Histories were made, a few massive upsets, the re-emergence of team prowess, lopsided blowouts, and more. We can’t wait for the upcoming weeks, but one thing’s for sure: it will be exciting.
